Have you ever tried to refill an ink cartridge for your printer? If that stuff gets on your hands, it ain’t coming off. And it’s interesting that we don’t think about this substance very often, especially since we look at something written or printed just about every five minutes. Maybe it’s because most of use left behind quills and fountain pens a long time ago. I think calligraphers are probably the only people left who end up using inkwells.

The fascinating stuff in this graphic is where the ink actually comes from. We’re talking squid, tattoo and soy. So, the next time you look at an application form or flyer or a business card, just remember that the ink had to come from somewhere.
