Americans love their holidays, especially the uber-American ones like the Fourth of July. We’d celebrate if all we had was one piece of beef jerky and a sparkler, just to spite the economy. And while things aren’t quite that bad, the recession has forced us to cut back on our celebrations. Well, that and the fact that half the country is on fire right now.
Still, one wonders if we couldn’t afford to do without all the fireworks, barbecues, beers and long weekend vacations. Of course, that’s un-patriotic sacrilege, and I could be put in the stocks for saying it. Anyway, this year we took it easy, watched the city fireworks from our front yard, and drank root beer (our family tradition). What does your family do to celebrate the 4th?
